Version 1.0.6 of the Pagershop Windows program is now shipping. However, during beta tests (in 1997 and 1998) Cromack Industries discovered that, on some Windows 95 machines, the Pagershop tabbed dialog box used to create and send a new page does not work correctly. In fact on most machines the program crashes as indicated by the error message "this program has performed an illegal operation - divide by zero error". The tabbed dialog box is invoked when the user clicks on the
Q Toolbar button. This problem is not caused by a problem with the Pagershop program, but rather a faulty Windows system Dynamic Linked Library (DLL) file.If you have experienced this problem there are two possible solutions.
The short-term solution is to use the menu bar selection "Send-Page" rather than the Toolbar button when sending a new page to the encoder. The drop-down menu has all of the same selections that are available on the tabs (e.g. 1-Way Digital, etc.). This will provide the same functionality while not causing the program to crash.
The long-term solution is to upgrade the faulty DLL in your operating system. You can do this by downloading the self-extracting file 401compupd.exe by clicking on the selection below. The size of the download file is about 430K bytes. This self-extracting EXE file will install the correct comctl32.dll file for the Windows 95, 98 and NT4.0 operating systems. This new version 4.01 EXE file is also provided on the Pagershop Installation CD starting with version 1.0.7. While this problem has not been observed on Windows 98 or NT4.0 machines, we recommend that users install the upgrade anyway. The updated DLL improves display operation on Windows 95/98 and NT4.0 operating systems.
The previous update provided on this page (i.e. 40compupd.exe), and on the Pagershop CD (versions 1.06 and below) just fixed some display problems. However, the new version 4.01 upgrade file (dated 12/08/98 from Microsoft) also fixes some Year 2000 (Y2K) problems in all of the above listed operating systems. Therefore, even if you have installed the version 4.0 upgrade, it is highly recommended that you upgrade your OS with the version 4.01 fix. Once the 4.01 upgrade is installed the comctl32.dll version should be 4.72.3611.1900. Note, however, that the actual DLL file is not the same for each of the Windows operating systems. Therefore, you are advised not to copy the DLL directly from another machine, but instead run the EXE file. The EXE file will launch an installer that first determines what OS your machine has, and then installs the correct binary version of the DLL.
